Salvador on NIKON or CANON?

When I was new to photography (way back in the 80´s), this was one of the first questions that I asked our fellow members.

The ensuing discussions were very passionate about the merits of both systems - but all in good fun.

Back then, we had two main groups, the “Canon Knights” (composed of Lemuel Arrogante, myself) and the ”Nikon Disciples” (composed of Celso Dayo, Carlito So, and most of the club members). So, a lot of our members then were “Nikon Discples”.

My personal opinion is that you can't go wrong if you choose from either of the major manufacturers (Nikon,Canon,Pentax,Olympus and Sony) and use quality lenses. They all have their pros and cons, depending on your needs. For a more “objective” opinion, I refer to this link to read the specs and performance of a camera or lens that I'm interested in: http://www.dpreview.com/

But most importantly, taking pictures, getting feedback and learning from fellow members is more than important than any camera make you decide. A lot of what I learned about photography, I learned from our fellow members (salamat, Celso).

I started using a Canon F1N back then and I presently use a Canon 400D, a Sigma 18-200mm OS and a Sigma 180mm macro as my main equipment. I have some pictures that you can see that I have taken with my gear, and you can decide for yourself if Canon is right for you: http://oyson.smugmug.com/Other.....0990_Tb3id . I use Adobe Lightroom for post-processing.

Glad to see that the club is still very much alive and kicking after all these years….

by Ross Miller, posted Apr 13th 2009 at 8:42PM

Well, well, what do we have here? It seems Nikon's still unannounced D5000 can't seem to wait for an official unveil. Israeli site DTown has published what appears to be legit press photos for the DSLR, with its articulating display vividly highlighted. Also take note the lens being shown is a 18-55mm VR, which is Nikon's term for image stabilization -- it looks like this might be what comes packaged in a bundle. Between this and the product page from earlier today, we think it's safe to conjecture this little guy might be making an appearance at tomorrow's Nikon press event. Check out another picture after the break, or hit up the read link for the full gallery.
